MEDITERRANEAN OLIVE AND LAVENDER

Oil on board 16 x 15 inches

Impressionist grass, herbs and trees: it had to be painted.

TRANSFORMED BY SUNLIGHT

Oil on board 16 x 15 inches

I wanted to paint an impressionist riot of brush stroked but also include some structure; here provided by the branches of the tree caught against the light and the contrasting white ones.

£450 Framed

The GOLDEN LOCUST TREE: LESVOS

Oil on board 16 x 15 inches

These yellow leaved trees always stand out and I wanted the challenge of a painting with the tree dominating the picture.

£450 Framed

RUE SAINT-ESPRIT. ANTIBES

Oil on board 24 x 20 inches

I loved this surreal view outside the Cathédrale d'Antibes. The dominant burnt sienna colour. The two arches, one blocked off, the other opening into a Nania-like view of an ancient side street. And then of course the crucifix.

EAST AFRICAN SUNRISE

Oil on board

I loved this view of the sun and the trees breaking through the mist. The rich colours, and not quite knowing where the horizon is.

THROUGH THE FRENCH WINDOWS

Oil on board

The "view through the window" is a stock-in-trade for artists, comparing the two opposing spaces. This south Devon garden with its burst of sunlight had to be painted

HARVEST MOON

Oil on board 24 x 20 inch

This is part of a series inspired by seeing the full moon rising one morning. I enjoyed contrasting the
iconic moon with the dark sky and the freely painted orange/yellow foreground

CYPRUS: THE AVENUE

Acrylic on board 23 x 17 inch

This was painted on holiday. The rich clear colours of the Mediterranean have always inspired me to paint.
Receding shadows spilling across a lane are always fascinating

GIRL IN SILHOUETTE

Pastel on paper 18 x 23 inch

With the model positioned in front of the lamp there are many opportunities to play with light and shade. A line does not really exist round an object but here the play of light creates a genuine outline which is fun to draw.

£350 frame and glass

CLIFFS ON MINORCA

Oil on board 18 x 23 inch

The painting has evolved a long way from the original sketch. I’ve been flattening the perspective and bringing out the pattern in an attempt to unsettle the eye and make the image more intriguing.

£500

LANDSCAPE - ZAKINTHOS

Oil on board 16 x 15 inch

Another painting worked up from a quick sketch, this time on the Greek island. The painting is about pattern, light movement.

£350

THE ROMAN BRIDGE; PROVENCE

Oil on board 20 x 30 inch

I had to paint this. The arch of the bridge is such a strong shape framing the rock and lush landscape.

£400 unframed

SUNRISE IN THE PARK

Oil on board 24 x 18 inch

I love the sun light bursting through the leaves. The lines of the branches help keep the composition together as well as help the impression of light

$1200

SUNBURST

Oil on board 16 x 15 inch

I always like the sunrays bursting through the clouds. Cloud formations and colours are always astonishing

£350

THE FRENCH BRAID

Oil on board 18 x 23 inch

Simplicity; less is more

WATER MEADOW AT DAWN

Oil on canvas 30 x 30 inch

An attempt to catch that calm, misty summer morning but with the slash of orange dawn sky.

$1650 unframed

Queen Anne’s Lace

Oil on board 23 x 22 inch

This is a detail I saw in a Hampshire meadow, the tumbling white flowers against the shadow of the trees and an enchanted portal into another space

£500

Sunset over the Nile

Oil on board 27 x 22 inch

I particularly wanted the picture to glow so I’ve brushed a thin film of paint on to a clear white ground; a technique used more in water colour

£550

Lavender Fields Provence

Yes, I know everybody paints it, but it’s fun to use these colours and to try to capture the southern light

Oil on canvas 18 x 18 inch

£450

Sand, Sea and Sky

Oil on board 29 x 23 inch

I like the minimalist feel of this painting with its three horizontal bands. The paint has been smoothed on so as to allow the white undercoat to shine through – a technique used more in water colour.

£550

Sunlit tree

Oil on canvas 40 x 59 inch

This is a theme that occurs two or three times in the exhibition. I love to see the sun lighting up young leaves causing a transfiguration

£650

Near Aix: Olive Grove

Painterly leaves, colour, light and shadow

with the branches giving the painting some structure.

Oil on board 21 x 17 inch

SOLD

Sand Dunes; The Gower

Oil on board 27 x 23 inch

The spikey maron grass contrasts with the smooth rendering of the sand and threatening sky as does the yellow with the rest of the composition

£550

The Walled Garden

I love a wall with a doorway; it conjures up all sorts of dreams of fresh vistas, escape or new beginnings. The splash of ornamental grass is the main impetous
for the painting.

Oil on canas 26 x 33 inch

SOLD

Cloud Study

I’m trying to play with the perspective – the receding clouds against the rather
flat, vertical landscape

Oil on canvas 24 x 34 inch

Misty Sunrise

Trying to catch that fleeting moment when the sun starts to burst through the early mist touching the dew and the wet leaves.
